Postpartum Recovery

My postpartum tear/wound is healing very slowly. Is it normal if stitches aren’t used?

Some moms share that shallow tears can heal without stitches but may take months. Keeping the area clean and following your gynecologist’s advice is key, and infections should always be ruled out by a doctor.

One mom was told by her gynecologist that because the tear was only in the upper layers, stitches weren’t needed and it could heal on its own with antibiotics and hygiene.

Another mom shared that it took about 4 months for her wound to heal completely and she was told it would heal by ‘secondary intention’ – she just had to keep the area clean and dry using pads recommended by her doctor.

If your doctor suspects infection or inflammation is delaying healing, they may advise tests or treatment. Always follow up if pain, discharge, or swelling increase.
